To prevent child abuse and neglect and promote a safe environment for children in Livingston County.

What is the Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAP)?
The CAP Council facilitates child abuse and neglect prevention programs in Livingston County. It is the locally designated chapter of the Michigan Children’s Trust Fund (CTF) and is funded in part by CTF, the Livingston County United Way and private donations.

Is child abuse a problem in Livingston County?
From 2000 through 2006, the rate of child abuse and neglect more than tripled in Livingston County.  Substance abuse, family crisis, financial hardship and isolation experienced by families new to the area are all factors that can increase the risk of child maltreatment.  The good news is that, through education and public awareness, it is possible to prevent abuse.  Experts believe that 85% of child abuse and neglect is preventable.
